Historical Talk: James Stephens (1825 – 1901) Life and Legacy

March 14 @ 2.00pm - 3.00pm
€6
Join local Kilkenny Historian & retired military officer Commandant Larry Scallan on Saturday, 14th of March at 2pm in the Parade Tower to listen to a talk on ‘James Stephens (1825- 1901): Life and Legacy’ as part of  St. Patrick’s Festival Kilkenny 2026.

James Stephens was one of the pivotal figures of 19th-century Irish nationalism. Best remembered as the founder and chief organiser of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), he dedicated his life to the pursuit of Irish independence through revolutionary means. His story is one of resilience, clandestine organisation, and political vision—spanning the failed Young Ireland rebellion of 1848, years of exile, the creation of a transatlantic revolutionary network, the rising of 1867 its failings and legacy and his contested leadership in later years.
