She studied the subject and went on to set up Lutyens & FitzGerald\, a garden design company. She has worked on  the gardens at Hillsborough Castle\, Glin and Glenarm\, among many others.

SUMMARY:National Play Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:National Play Day 2025 organised by Kilkenny County Council Community section in conjunction with the Department of Children\, Disability and Equality will be held on Saturday 5th July\, 2025. The event hosted by Kilkenny County Council and OPW will take place between 12 and 2pm in Kilkenny Castle Park. The event and all activities are free of charge and families are encouraged to come along\, enjoy the activities and make the event a great success. Along with event partners Healthy Ireland\, Creative Ireland and Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) it will be a great opportunity to highlight and support the importance of creating time and space for families to have fun together.  The feedback from the various workshops held last year was hugely positive and the plan is to create an even bigger and better event this year.  Play Day supports and highlights the importance of creating time and space for families to have fun together. \nThis year’s theme is ‘The Power of Play’.  Play is vital to supporting children’s development\, learning and wellbeing. It encourages a sense of adventure and discovery\, helping young minds to better understand the world around them through fun and creative ways. This National Play Day is an opportunity for Kilkenny County Council and our partners to invite children and their families to come together in the grounds of Kilkenny Castle Park and take part in a wide range of activities for all to enjoy. \nActivities and workshops include magic shows\, intergenerational yoga\, storytelling\, giant games\, funfair stalls\, balance bikes\, friendship bracelet workshop and craft workshops.  There will be an activity area for children to enjoy the power of play!  Come along and enjoy\, it’s open to all and all activities are free of charge. \nThe workshops represent the wonder and discovery that unfolds when children play outside.  Access to outdoor play means children have many opportunities for developing their imagination and physical abilities. Playing in nature also presents opportunities for exploration and adventure. \nNational Play Day is more than just a day of fun\, it is a celebration of the fundamental role that play has in all of our lives. Play is essential for children’s physical\, emotional and cognitive growth. \nWe look forward to welcoming you to this FREE event.

DESCRIPTION:Local Links to the Past ✨\nThe Office of Public Works and Transport for Ireland are collaborating to promote sustainable travel this National Heritage Week ????\nThis year’s theme is Connections\, Routes and Networks. Inspired by this\, OPW – Office of Public Works are incentivising visitors to use the Local Links rural public transport service to access twelve heritage sites across Ireland. This is the first year that the OPW and the Department of Transport are rolling out this initiative.\nKilkenny Castle  will grant free admission to visitors who take the Local Links service from Monday 19 to Friday 23 August. DESCRIPTION:Kilkenny Castle is delighted to take part in Culture Night once more. \nTo celebrate Culture Night\, the period rooms and exhibitions of Kilkenny Castle will be open to the public free of charge from 6pm to 9pm on Friday 22nd September 2023. \nMusical guests\, duo Laoise O’Brien (Recorder) & Malcolm Proud (harpsichord)\, will entertain visitors with “Upstairs\, downstairs: popular tunes of the 16th & 17th centuries” in the stunning Picture Gallery from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. \nThis programme of staggered performances comprises melodies and songs that would have been familiar to all\, in settings that would have been heard in the highest echelons of society. Laoise and Malcolm Proud take us back in time as they explore the music that would have been popular both upstairs and downstairs in Kilkenny Castle. \nLaoise O’Brien is a musician and producer based in Kilkenny. She divides her time between her music production company and her career-long championing of the recorder. As a performer\, Laoise has appeared as a soloist and guest musician with numerous ensembles including the Irish Chamber Orchestra\, Irish Baroque Orchestra\, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland\, Resurgam\, Sestina\, The Irish Consort\, and Camerata Kilkenny. www.laoiseobrien.com \nMalcolm Proud is a harpsichordist and organist and performs regularly with the Irish Baroque Orchestra\, Camerata Kilkenny\, Resurgam and Sestina. His international career has included playing all six Brandenburg Concertos with Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s English Baroque Soloists at the BBC London Proms and at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival. He has worked also with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment\, Academy of Ancient Music\, European Union Baroque Orchestra and Akademie für alte Musik Berlin. www.malcolmproud.ie \nPlease note last admission will be 8:30pm. \nNo advance booking required.
